Maintenance

Expert guidance to keep your extensions looking their best

Caring for Your Extensions

Great Lengths extensions are crafted from the finest 100% ethically sourced human hair. With the right care routine, your extensions will maintain their lustre, softness and natural movement for months. These guidelines will help you get the most from your investment.

Great Lengths Shampoo
01 — Shampoo

Gentle Shampooing

Always use a Great Lengths approved shampoo designed for extensions. Work the product through lengths in a downward motion, never scrub or bunch hair together.

  • Start at roots and smooth downward through ends
  • Avoid applying conditioner directly to bonds or tapes
02 — Condition & Treat

Deep Conditioning

Regular conditioning keeps extensions soft, hydrated and tangle-free. Focus product on mid-lengths to ends, avoiding attachment points.

  • Apply conditioner from mid-length to ends only
  • Leave-in conditioners are ideal for added moisture
  • Pat dry gently — never wring or twist
  • For extra shine and silkiness, use Anti-Tap Water

Great Lengths Brush
03 — Brush

Correct Brushing

Use a brush specifically designed for extensions — one with flexible bristles that glide through without pulling on bonds or tapes.

  • Brush from ends upward, working in sections
  • Hold hair above the attachment point while brushing
  • Brush before shampooing to prevent tangling
  • Detangle gently before bed each night
04 — Style

Heat Styling

While Great Lengths extensions can handle heat styling, always protect them first. Lower heat settings preserve hair quality and extend the life of your extensions.

  • Always apply a heat protectant before styling
  • Keep tools below 180°C (356°F)
  • Avoid clamping heat tools directly on bonds or tapes
  • Air dry when possible to maintain hair integrity

Your Maintenance Schedule

Daily

Brush & Detangle

Gently brush extensions morning and night using a dedicated extension brush. Always work from ends upward to prevent matting at attachment points.

Weekly

Deep Treatment

Apply a nourishing hair mask or deep conditioner once a week. Focus on mid-lengths to ends. This keeps extensions silky, hydrated and looking their best.

Every 6–8 Weeks

Salon Visit

Book a professional maintenance appointment. Your stylist will check bonds, adjust placement if needed, and ensure your extensions remain secure and blended.

The Golden Rules

Always

  • Use sulphate-free, extension-safe shampoo and conditioner
  • Tie hair in a loose braid or ponytail before sleeping
  • Dry hair thoroughly before going to bed
  • Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction
  • Attend regular salon maintenance appointments
  • Apply Anti Tap Water spray after every shampoo

Never

  • Use products with sulphates, alcohol or harsh chemicals
  • Go to bed with wet or damp extensions
  • Apply conditioner, oil or serum directly to bonds or tapes
  • Use excessive heat without a protectant spray
  • Brush aggressively from root to tip
  • Attempt to remove extensions yourself
